I believe the first time I became aware of the French composer Erik Satie was when watching the brilliant documentary "Man on Wire" which featured several of his songs in the soundtrack. He was a precursor to the minimalist era. Minimalism being defined as a musical style in which the simplest and fewest elements are used to create the maximum effect. Technically very simple pieces, yet extremely emotionally moving.

Is there even one that's not corrupted by right or left wing spinners?
I like to go to Google News because they report stories from multiple sources.

Wow did not see that coming.
by msconcerned inso for a while now i have had some doubts and i have slowly started and had conversations with my wife.
she has kind of conceded very minor points in our conversations, but what i have been seeing is that she is starting to use her brain.
im not insulting my wife, but she is starting to think critically.

She just said this to me....."what would anyone say J.W's are known for? Witnessing right? But what did Jesus say his followers would be identified by? Love among themselves. Hmmm"
Ouch. That observation would sting coming from an ex-JW, but is even sweeter to hear from someone actively attending.
Tread carefully, don't share too much about what you've learned. Bring things up one at a time and claim they're questions you were stumped about from a householder or co-worker.
Sounds like your wife is waking up, that's great news.

Good for them. They saw something wrong and stepped up. This should serve as a reminder to the rest of us.

Maybe Treyvor Martin was getting lost in the dissolving of his family. He was worth saving. He was not to have come to his end with a bullett in his chest. There are millions like him and we can help them and they can have a good life. We in business have an obligation to mentor. We in any community have an obligation to the youth in our community to see they have a good future.
Designs, thank you for injecting a little positivity into this thread. It's sorely needed.
I see people on both sides committing the exact same mistake; seeing one of the participants in this tragic encounter as the "good guy". Unfortunately, by framing this incident in such a child-like way we tend to misrepresent the other side. They're both human beings with flaws and the capacity for serious lapses in judgment. Sadly, Martin was never able to learn from the mistakes he made on the night of the shooting. Neither Zimmerman nor Martin were innocent angels.
Zimmerman is unfairly portrayed as a "racist", and Martin is unfairly portrayed as a drugged out "thug". (He's dead now, can we show just the tiniest bit of respect to his family?) Dare I bring up that Zimmerman may have according to his own admission, amphetamines in his system during the shooting? I personally would have liked to know if the level of amphetamines in Zimmerman's system was significant, or in a similar minuscule amount as the THC that Martin had in his system. (I think a drug test of Zimmerman after the shooting would have been appropriate and relevant to the investigation)
We can speculate that Martin may have grown up to be another dangerous "thug" roaming the streets, but what good does that do? Does it help us rationalize the lack of empathy we have for another young adult killed? Does it help us forget that Martin had a family just like Zimmerman, a family that loved him and wanted to see him become a happy and well-adjusted member of society? We'll never know if Martin would have turned his life around. But dragging a dead young man's reputation around in order to justify his murder to ourselves is in very poor taste.

"Since we you do not exchange our your Bible study aids for religious literature that disseminates error, how might we you answer tactfully?"
Classic information control. The Governing Body is literally telling their followers what they can and can't read. What's next, telling them who they can and can't love and marry?

That particular name has become a talisman for some people. It's also a false pronunciation, so why would I use it? Wouldn't it be disrespectful to God to knowingly use a false pronunciation of his name?

What Is The Most Absurd JW Belief or View?
by minimus inthere are many silly doctines and viewpoints.. one of the strangest ones is the blood doctrine.. why anyone could logically accept this belief is beyond reason..

Ha-ha. How much time you got?
Someone already mentioned the blood doctrine. There's one absurd aspect of it that I brought up to a JW recently. Let's get this straight, they are allowed by the human leaders of the religion to inject the blood fractions of satanic, worldly people into their body, yet are forbidden to use their own blood fractions to sustain their life? The response I got to that question was, "That's because blood must be poured on the ground". To which I replied, "Except the worldly blood you're allowed to inject into your body, right?" I could practically see his brain shudder as he momentarily thought about it and then quickly changed the subject. I don't blame him, how on earth could you logically defend that kind of nonsensical hypocrisy?
I can completely understand JWs having blood phobias and rejecting all fractions even though their leaders now allow them. It's a doctrinal and logical mess.

Conspiracy Theorists Vindicated?

actually, i think creating conspiracies is one of the primary products of modern government.
if citizens aren't responsible and involved enough, then crafted lies follow.. .

What an extremely scientifically flawed study.
Using online commenters on news stories as a study group introduces bias into the survey. The researchers also failed to mention what particular news stories they included and why, and from which websites these comments were plucked. A random sample would give a much more accurate portrayal of the relative sanity of "conspiracy theorists" compared to "government dupes". By the way, you think the authors of the study stereotype much?
"In survey sampling, bias refers to the tendency of a sample statistic to systematically over- or under-estimate a population parameter. Bias often occurs when the survey sample does not accurately represent the population. The bias that results from an unrepresentative sample is called selection bias".
"Voluntary response bias. Voluntary response bias occurs when sample members are self-selected volunteers, as in voluntary samples. An example would be call-in radio shows that solicit audience participation in surveys on controversial topics (abortion, affirmative action, gun control, etc.). The resulting sample tends to over represent individuals who have strong opinions".
"Random sampling is a procedure for sampling from a population in which (a) the selection of a sample unit is based on chance and (b) every element of the population has a known, non-zero probability of being selected. Random sampling helps produce representative samples by eliminating voluntary response bias and guarding against undercoverage bias. All probability sampling methods rely on random sampling".
